I am just now finding out about Jim's passing.  I am deeply saddened by this news.  Jim, I called him Doc,  was my therapist for over  8 years until I moved away from Charlotte, N.C.   He was the most wonderful, gentle caring human being.  He was doing what he was supposed to do in this life.  I am very grateful for him.  My condolences to the family.   R.I.P. Doc!

Jim touch so many with his humour, strong wit and caring demeanor. I will forever miss our conversations.

Jim was a wonderful therapist and even better friend.  I will miss him greatly.  I loved his humor and his kind, gentle spirit.  His ability to cut through to the point without candy coating was always appreciated.  God rest your soul, Friend. Deepest sympathy to the family.

You were truly one of the GREATS. This world is full of so many that only think of themselves, but you were one that put others first. My life is more enriched by knowing you. You taught me so much and a life time of thanks can never express the gratitude I feel. Thank you Jim. Thank you for being a wonderful listener, teacher, and friend. You will forever be in my heart.

Jim was a kind and gentle person who took time to help me personally as well as professionally. Thanks Jim, for all you did for so many.

To the McDonnell family,  My deepest sympathies to all of you. Jim was an insightful and caring therapist who worked with me during a very difficult time in my life.  He helped me find the strength and confidence to leave an abusive situation for which I and my children will always be grateful.  I am sure he will be deeply missed by everyone in the family.  He was an incredibly kind, genuine soul. I wish you all peace in this loss of light in your lives.

Take comfort in knowing that now you have a special guardian angel to watch over you.

Please accept my deepest sympathies...  I feel fortunate to have known Jim, and I'm glad to have been able to confide in and gain perspective from a man with such an easygoing and thoughtful manner.

As the days pass, I feel the loss of Jim more and more and continue to pray for you.  I also continue to see Jim more clearly: he was as a teacher of the heart.  During our meetings over the past 15 years, he would close his eyes and listen, which perplexed me at first.  He was hearing the true trouble in my heart, beneath my superficial concerns. Then, in a simple statement, he would reflect the emotion that he heard, which was the key to my healing.  For these reasons and his deep and genuine friendship, I will always carry Jim in my heart and be a much better person for having known him.  And I also think of you, his family, and pray for your healing and well being.

Meeting you all was very special for me. Jim and I spoke often about our families, especially about "our grands". He was a blessing to me in so many ways and I valued his friendship. Knowing him enriched my life and he will not be forgotten. Jim is gone from our presence but not from our hearts. May God continue to comfort and strengthen you.

We are honoured to have his ashes coming to Ireland for burial and we will lay him to rest with all the love and respect he deserves.
