John joined the Army at an early age and served in Brazil. After returning home to Mint Hill, NC he helped found Burnette's Heating & Cooling working along side his brothers and son. He was able to raise a wonderful family and was a source of valuable life wisdom. Some of his best insights were shared on a golf course where you could find John on a regular basis.
He was a long time member of Wilson Grove Baptist Church and helped teach Sunday school and lead the choir. In his younger years, he traveled and sang in a gospel quartet.
John is pre-deceased by his wife, Mary Burnette; daughter, Shelia Burnette; and grandchildren, John Burnette III, Todd Burnette, and Kyle Burnette.
He is survived by his sister, Della Bynum and her husband, Gene; sons, Tommy Burnette and wife, Donna and Rick Burnette and wife, Sandy; daughter, Brittany Lackey and husband, Taylor; grandchildren, Kim Burnette, Shelley Watts, Jeremy Burnette, Sommer Farmer; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road, Mint Hill, NC.
