Melvin Lewis Simpson, 82, of Concord passed away on August 17, 2020 at his home. He was born on July 8,1938 in Mecklenburg County to the late John Edgar and Lucy Taylor Simpson. He attended Hickory Grove Elementary School, Oakhurst and East Meck High School where het met his wife, Barbara Ann Norman.
Melvin served in the US Army for seven years. He drove a truck for many years, which inspired him to open his own business, Simpson Wood Products, that specialized in wood pallets and custom crates. Melvin and Barbara retired in 2016 and liked spending their free time in Cherry Grove, SC. He's a member of Mercy Baptist Church of Union County.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara, his children; Donna (Paul) Gargano, Leigh Anne Hollingsworth, 5 grandchildren; Hanna (Matthew) Huffman, Anthony Gargano, Ashleigh Gargano, Cole Hollingsworth and Alexa Hollingsworth, great grandchildren; Adaline and Juniper Huffman and brother; Steve (Bessie) Simpson.
He was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 21, 2020 at 3:00pm at Mercy Baptist Church 1010 Brief Road West Indian Trail, NC 28079.
