Paul Edward Jones

His family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 PM Thursday at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews Mint-Hill Road. His funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, August 19, in the funeral home chapel with Mr. Danny Rushing officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.

Born September 6, 1938 in Gainesboro, TN, Mr. Jones was the son of the late Johnny Simpson Jones and Beulah Haile Jones Digiovanni. He started in the bakery business in 1955 in California with Barbara Ann Bakery. After it closed, Mr. Jones worked with Langendorf Bakery. In 1978, he transferred to North Carolina to Merita Bakery, where he remained until his retirement in 2004. Mr. Jones was an avid Dale Earnhardt, Sr. race fan, which carried over to Dale, Jr. He also enjoyed fishing and riding on the pontoon boat. In addition to his parents, Mr. Jones was preceded in death on November 28, 2006 by a son, Michael Edward Jones.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gwen, whom he married October 25, 1972 in Los Angeles, CA; his children, Bill Jones and wife, Crissy, of West Covina, CA, Diana Daniel and husband, Doug, of Parkland, FL, Janet Jones of Charlotte, Steven Jones and wife, Sarah, of Rock Hill, SC, and Gloria “Sam” Whiteside of Mint Hill; his sister, Willean Kirby of Albuquerque, NM; two special nieces, Sherry Milea of Corrales, NM and Charlene Raymond of Albuquerque, NM; ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
