

Robert James Smith, “Bob”, 64, of Mint Hill, NC, passed away at home Monday, September 5, 2011after a courageous battle with mesothelioma. He was surrounded by his faithful wife, loving son and daughter-in-law, and grandchildren.
A memorial service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held 2 P.M. Sunday, September 11, at Blair Road United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Morris Brown officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
Born September 11, 1946 in Washington, DC, Bob was a son of the late Philip A. Smith and Cecelia Brogan Smith. Bob received his degree in electrical engineering from University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He retired August 31, 2010 from Duke Energy after 30 years of service. Bob had a passion for the KAIROS Prison Ministry at Evans Correctional Institute in Bennettsville, SC. He was a very giving person and was the best “Bobby” ever!
He is survived by his loving wife and soul mate of 26 years, Dee Smith; a son, Paul Fleenor and wife, Kerry, of Hickory; grandchildren, Gabrielle, Izak and Alexandrina Fleenor, Samantha Jenkins and Brian Auten; and his four-legged children, Tasha and Elwood. He is also survived by brothers, Edward, Timothy, and Philip Smith.
