Ruth York Purser

She was born June 2, 1922 in Union County, NC to the late James Andrew York and Bessie Medlin York.

Ruth was raised in Unionville, NC and graduated from Unionville High School in 1941. She played for her high school basketball team, was competitive in sports and enjoyed this with her sisters. Ruth married her childhood sweetheart, Devon Purser, and was dedicated to him for over 70 years. She was a loving and caring mother and wife. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

Ruth is survived by her husband, H.D. Purser; sons, Cecil Purser, Stan Purser (Debbie), Jeff Purser (Susan) and Russell Purser; grandchildren, Chuck Purser (Dia), Erin Watts (Jon), Christopher Purser, Brian Purser, Keith Purser, Jason Purser (Kelly), Adam Purser; great grandchildren, Lindsey Purser, Ethan Purser, Lila and Charlotte Purser; and two brothers, Charles York (Geraldine) and Donald York.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by five sisters and six brothers.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00pm on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227. A visitation will be held from 10:00am until 12:00pm before the service. Burial will follow at Sharon Memorial Park.
