Verta W. Barrett

Born December 19th, 1934 in Charlotte, NC Mrs. Barrett was the daughter of the late Edgar Wentz and Laura Dover Wentz. She was a graduate of Tech High School in Charlotte, NC and she worked at First Union National Bank and then for 20 years after that was an Executive Assistant at the Charles Ervin Company, which was a very successful Builder of Commercial Properties all over the Charlotte area. Once the Ervin’s retired she then worked at Contemporary Benefits in the Mint Hill area.

Verta loved her Lord and Savior and was very active in her church Stallings United Methodist in Stallings, NC. She and her husband Bobby oversaw devotions, programs and ran Sunday School classes for a period of time. They loved their little church just down the road from where they lived.

Surviving are her sons, Gary Worth Barrett and wife, Janet Baucom Barrett, Eric Hugh Barrett and wife, Elizabeth Blottman Barrett, daughter Cynthia Barrett Kieffer.

Grandchildren: Raigan Michelle Jankord and husband, Chad Jankord, Taylor Nicole Sease and husband Paul Apple, Joanna Barrett Sheyda, Nathanael Seth Barrett and wife Lindsey Peele Barrett, Lindsey Barrett Olive and husband Aaron Olive, Laura Barrett Pope and husband Donnie Pope and Paige Elizabeth Barrett.

Great grandchildren: Gavin James Apple, Boston Thomas Apple, Mason Blake Apple, Emersyn Taylor Teckmyer, Dawsyn Raye Teckmyer, Lincoln Nash Teckmyer, Ridley Lynn Sheyda, Addison Lee Barrett, Aiden Worth Barrett and Brooks Wylder Pope.

Also surviving are her brother Robert Wentz and her sister Barbara Wentz Powell and her husband Richard Powell.

The family will receive friends on Monday, January 13, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227. The funeral service will immediately follow. Verta will be laid to rest at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Rd, Mint Hill, NC 28227.
