

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at McEwen – Mint Hill Chapel with Pastor Matthew Burrell officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hill, a daughter of the late Edna Millington Forster Farmer and Joseph Famer, was born April 7, 1927 in Biddulph, Staffordshire, England. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Edward Hill, Sr.; her sister, Edna Hancock; and by her brothers, William and Leonard Farmer. Mrs. Hill served in the Women’s Land Army of England during World War II. She came to America in 1946 and lived in Wapakoneta, OH. She married her husband, James on September 6, 1947 in Lima, OH. Mrs. Hill was an Army wife for eighteen years, following her husband to Camp Campbell, KY, Germany, Fort Myer, VA, Falls Church, VA, Savanna, IL, and she lived in Lima, OH while James served in Korea. Mrs. Hill moved to Charlotte in 1965, where she worked for Sam Soloman, Service Merchandise, and later retired from TJ Maxx in 1980.
Her family was the joy of her life. Mrs. Hill is survived by her five children, James Edward Hill, Jr. (Nancy) of Charlotte, Judy Hill Law (Jerry) of McConnells, SC, John Michael Hill (Debbie) of Mt. Ulla, NC, Danny Lee Hill (Karen) of Tega Cay, SC, and David Joseph Hill (Sheila) of Matthews, NC. She had 14 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren who she loved very much.
