Wilburn Frederick Stubbs, beloved husband, father and grandfather, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 23, 2015. He was born September 24, 1921 in Ellerbe, NC to the late Rob Roy and Ina Mae Smith Stubbs.
A graduate of Central High School, Wilburn loved meeting with old classmates for breakfast. He, along with his three brothers, served our country proudly during WWII. Wilburn loved being a Marine! He lost his brother, Addison, during the war when Addison's ship was sunk. He was employed with Ervin Construction Company for a number of years, and retired from Pelton & Crane. Wilburn was a charter member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church, and a member of the Phil Johnson Sunday school class. During his illness, his Sunday school class members, along with so many others, reached out to him in numerous and loving ways and he appreciated that so very much. Wilburn loved people, as was evidenced by the many friends who were ALWAYS welcomed into their home.
Wilburn was married almost 67 years to his sweet wife, Betsy. They had three children, Linda, David and Gary. Wilburn was preceded in death by his two admiring sons, who died 19 months apart to the day, as well as siblings: Reid, Maurice, and Addison Stubbs, Hazel Tennille, Norma Hamor and Polly Stubbs.
Survivors include his loving wife, Betsy; his precious daughter, Linda (Jimmy) Todd of Grapevine, TX; a very special daughter-in-law, Tamar Stubbs of Indian Trail, NC; six treasured grandchildren, Chris (Holly) Todd of Frisco, TX, Heather (David) Reck of Lucas, TX, Shannon (Tyler) Hall of Greensboro, NC, Josh (Tabitha) Stubbs of Mauldin, SC and Alexis and Christina Stubbs of Indian Trail. Also surviving are his adored great-grands, Savannah, Christopher and Izzy Todd of Frisco, TX, Keegan, Hunter and Ellie Reck of Lucas, TX, Camden and Addyson Hall of Greensboro, NC and Kiley Stubbs of Mauldin, SC.
A very special "Thank you!" to the Novant Health Hospice team, who so lovingly cared for him these last few months.
