She was the daughter of the late Willard and Mary Watkins.
Betty retired as an administration assistant with the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
She was a member of Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Bruce Newman, of Louisville, TN, two brothers, Bill (Margaret) Watkins, of Apison, TN, Jim (Diane) Watkins, of Blairsville, GA, brother-in-law, Roy (Bobbie) Newman, of Murrells Inlet, S.C., and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 7, 2011, at Plowman Cemetery in Apison, Tennessee with Pastor Gary Shepherd officiating.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
