

He was born in Bakersfield, California on September 30, 1927. He was the son of the late Julius J. and Emma I. Knittel and was preceded in death by a sister, Vida Dohm.
Frank held a B.A. degree in English, M.S. degree in School Administration and a Ph.D. in English Language and Literature. He was a university administrator, professor, pastor and business owner.
He was extremely involved in his community throughout his life and held memberships in the Kiwanis, Lions and Rotary Clubs.
He was a veteran of the US Army and a member of the Collegedale Community Church of Seventh-day Adventists.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Helen Dean Knittel, son, Jeff Knittel (Crystal), of Nashville, TN, daughter, Sherry Knittel Drew, of Chattanooga, TN, five grandchildren, Joe, Andrew, Rachel, Jessica, Jacob, sister, Joyce Hardin, of Alvord, TX, and nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m., Saturday, February 21, 2015 at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m., Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the Collegedale University Seventh-day Adventist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Worthy Student Fund at Southern Adventist University.
