Fred Walsh, 73, of Ooltewah, passed away on February 1 after a brief illness. He was born April 23, 1946, in Long Branch, New Jersey and moved to Staunton, Virginia, at a young age. He attended Virginia Episcopal School. He then went on to graduate from Hampton Sydney College with a degree in Physics. Fred was employed by GE for a number of years. While with GE in San Jose, CA, he met his wife. They traveled around the southern part of the country where Fred worked at various nuclear plants. Fred accepted a position with TVA and they moved to Chattanooga in 1989. He retired from TVA in 2006. Fred’s passion was his workshop where he loved to build or repair things. There was nothing too complicated for him to design, build, or fix. There was also no question too complicated for him to answer.
He was preceded in death by his parents Frederick H. Walsh, Jr. and Doris Walsh of Staunton, VA. He leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Lynne; two sisters Jane and Ann of Staunton, VA; brother-in-law Don; cousin Nancy and nephew Shane.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, on Tuesday, February 11th in the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Pastor Tazz Reid officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Fred’s name to Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Dr., Chattanooga, TN 37416 or the Humane Education Society, 212 N. Highland Park Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37404.
