Mekinzie is survived by her parents, brother, and grandparents George and Mary Jo Gibbs, as well as by several uncles, aunts, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Robert and Angela Reed.
Mekinzie was a fiery little beacon who was beyond beautiful in every way. The phrase “to know her was to love her” must have been written for her, and if she loved you, you knew it. She was truly one of a kind with an indomitable spirit that never wasted a moment of life — a beautiful soul whose life had barely begun and ended far before its time. Her presence and effervescence were immeasurable blessings that will be sorely missed.
Mekinzie loved the outdoors and every creature in it. She would have adopted every dog in the world if she could have, and she had planned to return to college to become a veterinarian. She inherited a green thumb from all her grandparents and wasn’t afraid to get her hands dirty. She enjoyed hiking and kayaking and had become an avid climber. She was a talented artist and had won awards for her artworks. She had a passion for music and was a ravenous reader, with her favorite book being Ernest Hemingway’s “The Old Man and the Sea.”
A visitation for Mekinzie will be held Monday, August 26, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM, followed by a celebration of life service at 5:00 PM in the funeral home chapel.
In place of flowers, please donate to a local animal shelter or plant a tree in her honor. Mekinzie was a huge supporter of our local humane societies and shelters. She visited them regularly and tried to help dogs and cats find homes. She rescued several cats and dogs, including her beloved Dean, who passed away last year.
