

Nancy Ray Mallett, 75, of Chattanooga, Tennessee passed away on August 17, 2020 after a lengthy battle with cancer. She remained strong in her faith and displayed resilience, perseverance, and grace every day of her life.
Nancy was born on January 30, 1945 to Charles and Bonnie Ray in Mayfield, KY. She moved with her family to Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1959 and attended Tyner High School. After high school, she went on to study cosmetology and worked as Cosmetologist for most of her adult life. In addition, she taught preschool at Tyner United Methodist Church where she was a life long member and won the hearts of both the children and the adults she served. She was an avid fan of the Tennessee Volunteers and thoroughly enjoyed participating in the various activities of both her children and grandchildren. Nancy believed family came first, and she demonstrated this belief throughout her lifetime with her thoughts, words, actions, and deeds. She was an amazing wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, and her most favorite role- Nana.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, James E. “Happy” Mallett, her parents Charles and Bonnie Ray, a brother Kenneth Ray, and a granddaughter, Brittany Mallett.
She is survived by their four children Mike (Karen) Mallett of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Chip (Donna) Mallett of Forsyth, GA, Jeff Mallett of Chattanooga, TN, and Leann (Brandon) Fergueson of Kingston Springs, TN as well as, siblings Linda Pennington, Janice White, Linda Ray, and Kim (Lisa) Ray. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren as well as, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services will be held on Friday, August 21, 2020 at 1:00pm at the Chattanooga Funeral Home Valley View Chapel. The family will receive friends before the service beginning at 11:00 am. Interment will immediately follow the service at Lakewood Memorial Gardens East.
Pallbearers will be her nephews: Scott Pennington, Stan Pennington, Troy White, Derek Ray, Matthew Ray, Adam Ray and Steve Turner.
Honorary Pallbearers are her grandsons: Casey Mallett, Blaine Mallett, Drew Mallett, Jordan Mallett, and Trey Mallett.
In lieu of flowers, Nancy requested donations be made to her grandson Casey Mallett, who is also battling cancer (lymphoma), and her granddaughter Caroline Fergueson, who is battling Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, to assist both with ongoing medical expenses.
We respectfully request that "social distancing", wearing masks, and all CDC measures be adhered to at the funeral home and cemetery.
