Percilla Ann “Pat” McDougal passed away on September 2, 2025, at the age of 91. She was born in Napoleon, Ohio, on September 30, 1933, the youngest child of Cloyice and Mary (Merillat) Warner. Married to Jim McDougal for 71 years, she was at his bedside when he passed away on February 1, 2025.
Pat descended from some of the earliest settlers of Ohio and spent her early years in northwest Ohio. She first met her husband while a student at Mount Vernon Academy, and later at Washington Missionary College, now Washington Adventist University. They married at the minister’s house in Defiance, Ohio on December 28, 1953. During her life, she had been a nurse's aid, school librarian, and taught driver’s education at Collegedale Academy, teaching over a thousand students how to drive. In her leisure time, she enjoyed throwing pottery and painting in oils.
A life-long member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Pat was a Master Guide, a head deaconess, and had given numerous Bible studies. In 1972 the family moved from Toledo, Ohio to Ooltewah, Tennessee to allow their four boys to get an Adventist education without having to go to a boarding school. During the 1980’s Pat became an active member of the Clan MacDougall Society of North America. She served as the editor of the Society’s newsletter, “The Tartan,” for many years throughout which she received several special awards for her service. Pat gained the most satisfaction caring for her family, whether it was cooking, sewing, cleaning or just noticing something wasn’t right and fixing it, whether you liked it or not.
Pat was preceded in death by her husband, James McDougal, her parents and two sisters, Winnona Lee Hawkins and Denelda Jean Blanton. She is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law, Todd (Renita) McDougal of Hendersonville, North Carolina, Tim McDougal of Texarkana, Texas, Terry (Jennifer) McDougal of Cleveland, Tennessee, and Troy (Barbie) McDougal of Ooltewah, Tennessee, and three grandchildren, Eric McDougal of Lawrence, Kansas, and Martin McDougal and Oliver McDougal, both of Cleveland, Tennessee. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Florence Dickinson of Eugene, Oregon, and Alice Grove of Mansfield, Ohio, and one brother-in-law, Don Smith of Peralta, New Mexico, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 pm on Sunday, September 7, 2025 at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. A private graveside service and inurnment will be held at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Elder Dwight Herod officiating.
