Ramsey Gail Seagle, age 30, of Chattanooga passed away Friday, January 31, 2025, at his home, surrounded by love. He was born September 6, 1994, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, to parents Scott and Donna Love Seagle.
Ramsey was a 2013 graduate of the Baylor School and a 2017 graduate of Sewanee: The University of the South, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree. Ramsey’s passions included soccer, travel, and days in the woods. He grew bountiful gardens, concocted delicious sauces, and loved to laugh with friends over a slow dinner. Ramsey believed in civility and equity, cared deeply for the health of our planet, and always advocated that cats are the best. Ramsey enjoyed good books, a bourbon, and adventures with his partner, family, and friends.
Ramsey’s sense of adventure and curiosity about the world often meant that his friends would find themselves in places they would not have wound up in if it wasn’t for him: paddling upstream in a canoe for miles, backpacking through Grayson Highlands in the rain, biking across the Vietnamese countryside, or navigating the streets of Spain late at night, just to name a few. His innate sense of direction transcended reason. People willingly followed him without a map or a plan, out of their comfort zones. He could talk you into (or out of) a situation because he spoke with such confidence and conviction. Ramsey’s confidence set him apart from the rest. In a world where people conform to the norms, Ramsey did not abide and forged his own path. We could list the number of countries he’s visited, the number of soccer goals he’s scored, or could tally the number of painstaking political discussions he has had -- but those numbers are just data. The takeaway is this: Ramsey lived a full life in his three decades on this planet.
Ramsey was loved by his family and many friends: his parents, Scott and Donna Seagle; grandparents Judy Findley and Don Love (deceased), Brenda and James Lee, and Don (deceased) and Evelyn Seagle; his godparents John and Jane Grant; his adopted aunt and uncle Paola Zannini and Hill Craddock; his partner Meridith Doone; his coaches Curtis Blair and Tony Pacella, and his Crew: William Hitchcock and Katy Neusner, Dillon Clemmer, Tomas Arciniega, Emilio Craddock, Troy Leach, Spencer Hunt, Taylor Roswall, Mattie Bono, Alice Jones, Morgan Long, Jeffrey Shibata, Robert Stagmaier, Andrew Scales, and many more.
A celebration of Ramsey’s life will take place on Saturday, February 8th @ 1 pm in Alumni Chapel on the campus of the Baylor School, Chattanooga, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Chattanooga Football Club Foundation, Operation Get Active, an after-school program that uses the game of soccer to encourage Chattanooga’s elementary age youth to live active, healthy lifestyles. OGA works in fifteen Title 1 elementary schools throughout Hamilton County.
