

Lawrence Anthony Maher, 82, of Chicago, Illinois, was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 23, 1943, and passed away on March 31, 2026. Lawrence was known as a hard-working, brave, humorous, and thoughtful man whose steady presence and quiet strength will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Born in Chicago, Illinois on December 23, 1943 to his parents Winifred and Lawrence, Lawrence grew up rooted in the values of family and perseverance. In 1965 he graduated Apprenticeship Cement Masons Local 502.
Lawrence devoted himself to his work with the same determination that characterized his life, retiring after 60 years.
Lawrence was married to his wife, Joann nee, Madison, on September 23, 1962. He is survived by his sons Michael (Sheila) and Karl (Julie) Maher, and was preceded in death by his son, the late Mark Maher. Lawrence was a proud grandfather of Mike, Krystal (Spencer), Kyle (Brooke), Brandyn (Haleigh), Jeremy (Nicole) and Brittany, and a cherished great-grandfather of Sawyer, Lennon, Rylee, Hanora, Blair, Elianah and Emmet. He is also survived by his siblings: Tommy, Marty, Patty, Rosemary, Cathy, and was preceded in death by the late Winnie, Barbara, Theresa, Bobby and Kevin.
In his personal time, Lawrence found enjoyment in collecting cookie jars, hunting, and building model planes and cars—interests that reflected both his sense of humor and his thoughtful attention to detail.
