Charles Frederick (Fred) Graves passed away peacefully at the age of 91 surrounded by his family, listening to Frank Sinatra at Cascades Hospice in Chilliwack on January 13 after a recent cancer diagnosis.
Fred was born on August 21, 1933 in Victoria to Percy and Evelyn Graves. He grew up with his younger sister Carol and his family lived in many different homes which his father, a fireman, built all over Victoria.
Fred started his career as an accountant and then worked with Fields Stores where he became president before retiring at the age of 49.
Fred met his wife Elizabeth (Libby), a nurse in Victoria, when he was 26. He often told the story of his first date with Libby and going to the Crystal Gardens to a dance. He said he knew instantly that he would marry her and he proposed to her three months later.
Fred and Libby settled in North Vancouver and raised their three children Peter, John and Anne first in Lynn Valley and then in Deep Cove.
After retiring Fred and Libby spent many happy years as snowbirds spending six months each year in Palm Springs, California where they golfed and swam and enjoyed great times with friends and visiting family.
Fred loved to boat and fish and build things. He also loved his hometown of Victoria and he and Libby moved back there for the last 30 years of their lives.
Fred valued family. He was predeceased by the love of his life Libby in 2022 and his son John in 2024. He is survived by his sister Carol Isaac, his children Peter Graves & Annie Rodgers, daughters in law Vicki Graves and Twila Graves, his grandchildren Kyle (Jamie), Gina (Liz), Ryan (Leanna) and Kalyn (Steve) and great grandchildren Carter, Camryn and Ella.
The family is grateful to the caring staff and volunteers at Cascade Hospice in Chilliwack. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Chilliwack Hospice Society.
