His family moved to Chilliwack in 1959 to a farm on Bell Rd. He graduated from CHWK Senior in 1963 and started working in the Royal Bank right after graduation. His professional life was defined by a remarkable 40-year career with the bank in various communities around British Columbia and ending as an agricultural loans manager in Chilliwack. Dave’s faith was a central pillar throughout his life. He was active in the church, helping wherever he could, and spent his last years watching TV sermons, reading his Bible and walking 5 km sometimes twice a day, picking up treasures along the way.
Above all, Dave was a devoted family man, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He prayed for them by name daily and often helped his children in their married lives with house projects in any way he could. He leaves behind a rich legacy and is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Sharron; his children, Kevin (Vicky), Kelly (Rebecca), and Sharilyn (Maarten) Van Ruitenburg; grandchildren, Korissa, Karaline (Jon) Siemens, Sydney (Curtis) Brennan, Isabel (Steve) Vanee, Kole (Alyssa), Annalisa (Josh) Visscher, Koralee, Olivia (Nigel) Lindhout, Nikolas Van Ruitenburg, and Jaden; and great grandchildren: Sadie, Harley, Beau, Kai, Joel, Lila, Koen, Roman, Elayna and Petra. As well as Dave’s only remaining sibling Lydia Mckay of Vancouver. Dave is predeceased by his parents as well as eight older siblings.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Oct. 10, 2026, 11am at the Salvation Army Church 46420 Brooks Ave. Chilliwack.
