Marjo was beloved and had an unforgettable presence. A wild-at-heart, spirited woman who lived life on her own terms. She had a spicy side, a mind of her own, and a personality that could fill a room. She was colourful in every sense of the word, never afraid to be herself, and certainly not someone who could be told how to live her life. She could make you laugh, challenge your patience, speak her mind and leave you with a story to tell.
Raised in a military family, Marjo spent her early years travelling across Canada with her parents and six younger sisters. Those formative years shaped a life marked by adaptability, resilience, and deep family ties. No matter how far apart life took them, her sisters remained an important part of her world.
Marjo devoted many years of her life to fostering youth in care through the Ministry of Children and Family Development. Beneath the feisty personality was a woman with a big heart who opened her home to children in need of a safe place and somewhere to belong.
Marjo married the love of her life, George, and together they built a life that was anything but ordinary. As a military wife, Marjo followed George wherever his service took them, embracing the adventures and challenges along the way. Theirs was a love between two strong-willed people who were never afraid to speak their minds or stand their ground. Beneath the tenacious moments was a bond built on shared experiences, unwavering commitment, and a lifetime of standing side by side.
She loved Japanese lanterns, hummingbirds, and had a particular fondness for her raccoons. She fed them, named them, and followed their generations as they came and went, as though each new arrival was part of her extended family. She loved her morning peach cup, gummy bears, hickory sticks and old licorice all sorts- the harder to chew, the better! She was known for her colourful leggings, funky earrings, and bold style; subtle was never her thing!
Marjo was predeceased by her parents, George and Maria Ryder, and her sisters Jayne and Donna.
Marjo leaves behind her loving husband, George; her beloved children, Phillip and Kari; her beautiful grandchildren, Emmalei, Amanda, Mattea, Matthew, and Bria; her cherished great-grandson, Ryder; and her dear sisters Joanne, Carol, Bonny, and Judy. Each held a special and irreplaceable place in her heart, and an everlasting part of her story.
The world is a little less colourful without Marjo in it. She will be missed beyond words, remembered with love, and celebrated for the wonderfully wild, headstrong, one-of-a-kind woman she was, and will never be forgotten.
