Bernice LaRocque Heiter, 93, of Chula Vista, passed away Friday, February 10, 2017. She was born in New Bedford, MA on December 13, 1923. She graduated New Bedford High School in 1941 and received her Nursing Degree from Saint Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1945.
She worked as a Nurse in the United States Army where she met and married William Frank Heiter in 1951. After moving to San Diego, CA, Bernice received her Master’s Degree in French Literature from San Diego State College (SDSU) in 1976. She was a member of the Chula Vista Genealogical Society and volunteered for the San Diego Chapter of the American Red Cross for nearly 50 years.
Her greatest passion was helping people. She is survived by her children, William J. Heiter and John P. Heiter, her grandchildren Kara L. Heiter, John J. Heiter, Shannon Heiter, and Brandon Heiter, two great-grandchildren, sister Claire Vanasse, and two beloved cats. Bernice will be interred with her late husband at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.
