
Charles Russell Manley passed away on March 10, 2014, at the age of 67. He was born March 19, 1946, in Leavenworth, Kansas, to Russell Edward and Mary Elizabeth (Sawtell) Manley. When he was one year old, the family moved to Vallejo, California. When he was six years old, the family moved to San Diego where he resided until his death. He graduated from Grossmont High School in 1963. He graduated from San Diego State in 1968 with a major in history. During high school he played first trombone in the marching band and worked part time at a veterinary hospital in La Mesa. Charles loved animals his whole life. While attending San Diego State, he spent his summers leading Grossmont High School students,on trips to Europe. He taught history after college. As a young adult he developed an illness that affected his life's course for his remaining years. He was an appreciative, caring, loving person when his illness was not controlling him. He is at peace and his spirit is flying free.
He was predeceased by his parents, Russell and Elizabeth Manley, and his sister, Mary Sue Manley. He is survived by his sister Barbara Jean (Manley) Holm of La Mesa, California, two brother-in-laws, David Fountain and John McCann; two nieces, Linda Carol (Haughey) Kinnaman and her husband Richard Kinnaman of La Mesa and Pamela Jean (Haughey) Hubbell and her husband Drew Hubbell of San Diego, California. He is also survived by five grand- nieces and nephews: Tessa and Shayla Kinnaman and Aeliana, Dylan, and Connor Hubbell.
Memorial service for Charles will be at Clairemont Healthcare & Wellness Center at 2 p.m. on March 19, 2014.
