

Frank passed peacefully on March 27th after a short illness. He was surrounded by the family he loved. He is survived by his sisters, Bernabela, Cleofe, Conchita, and Theresita. His wife of 64 years, Maria, and his three children, Joel Docog and wife Gena, Angelica Docog, and Bernadette Egan and husband Gary. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Dominic, Melissa, Isabella, Gabrielle, Thomas, and Shawn, and great-grandson, Nico as well as his many nieces and nephews he loved so very dearly.
Frank was born in Bacon, Philippines, on July 24, 1928. In 1956, he enlisted in the US Navy and was assigned to San Diego, CA. His naval career would take him and his family to Washington DC, Virginia Beach, VA, and Subic Bay, Philippines. Frank also had unaccompanied tours on the USS America (CV-66), Okinawa, and Viet-Nam. While stationed in Viet-Nam as a Corpsman, he would assist Catholic Chaplains during Mass. One chaplain in particular, was near to Frank’s heart. He would later be Servant of God Fr. Vincent Capodanno, MM. Frank went on to retire as a decorated Chief Petty Officer. After military service, he worked for the VA Hospital, La Jolla in the dental department for another 15 years.
After being introduced to Maria by a mutual friend, they eventually married at the Star of the Sea Chapel, Naval Station, San Diego in 1957. They would eventually retire in San Diego. Frank retired early enough to make pilgrimages with his wife to Fatima, Lourdes, the Holy Land, and Rome. They also went on vacations to China, Europe, and Russia.
Among Frank's many interests were bowling, cards, coin collecting, dancing, photography, and volunteering. He had a servants’ heart; he was active in many civil and religious organizations. As a long-time parishioner at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, he would sing in the choir and serve on the pastoral council. Frank was a member of the Executive Lions Club, Fleet Reserve Association, VFW and a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was active in the Filipino American Community serving in leadership roles for several clubs like the “The Council of Philippines American Organizations of San Diego County.” Many travelers to San Diego would see him at the Traveler’s Aid station at the airport. For his selfless service, he would receive numerous congressional, state, and local recognitions and awards.
Guided by his strong Catholic faith; Frank was a family man, and someone who was willing to help everyone. He will be remembered for his generous spirit, unconditional friendships, unwavering loyalty, happiness and sense of peace when with those he loved.
A Viewing and Rosary will be held Thursday, April 21st from 5:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. at Funeraria del Ángel, Funeral Mass on Friday, April 22nd at 2:00 p.m. at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church. His final journey to Miramar National Cemetery will be Monday, May 23rd at 1:00 p.m.
