After 8 years of courtship, they wed on November 23, 1974. Together they moved to Los Angeles, California. Enrique worked in factories and a furniture store before returning with his wife and first daughter to Tijuana. From there they moved to San Diego where their second and third daughters were born. In San Diego, he became owner of his own business distributing tortillas and Mexican food products, named Rivas Foods.
