Dear Papang, 

I love you with all my heart. It’s crazy that you’re gone now. I came here as soon as possible but I wasn’t able to visit you in the hospital because of covid. I really wish I could’ve said goodbye before you left. It’s okay because I know you’re in a better place with mamang and I know both of you will watch over us. Thank you for everything you did for our family, I’ll miss you so much.

I miss you! Not a day goes by where you aren’t on my mind. And I know you want us to move on and be happy. But it’s just not the same without you here.  I’m just glad you aren’t suffering anymore and that you have reunited with Mamang. Thank you for raising RJ, Rheyna and I and making sure we grew up to be decent and disciplined. Thank you for being our best friend and the biggest cheerleader in our lives. Thank you also for watching Rylan and being his best buddy. He misses you like crazy. We all miss you like crazy. I miss seeing that big ol’ smile on your face. All your memories will forever be engraved in my heart. Tell Mamang I said hi and that I love her. Til we all meet again! I love you Pang!   With a heavy heart, I want to share the memories of my good old days with Uncle Ninong Rusty. I remember he would wake up early to go to Batangas Pier and come home with a fresh catch. He would call the young Ronnet then to share a plate of sinangag with him. Whenever he would go out with friends, he would sometimes bring home a marble or a top for me to play with. 
  When I was in college, he let me stay with them in Cavite and supported my studies. He would always be understanding and see beyond my mistakes. Uncle Rusty was a father figure I looked up to during my teenage years. 
  Uncle Rusty liked to tease and joke around. Never was a dull moment with him and his humor was his charm. I felt like I lost a second father when they decided to move to US for good. Even when he was already in the US, he would sometimes worry about the condition of his relatives he left here. He would often asked me when I will visit him. 
  We have not seen each other since 1983 and I yearned for the times we could have spent together. I am saddened that I was not able to personally say goodbye and thank you for the kindness you have shown me. I know you are in a better place rejoicing with our Creator. We will miss you and we will always love you. This is my last hurrah to a great man and I was lucky enough to be his nephew in this lifetime. For the last time, Mano po, Ninong.

Dear pops,
I dont even know where to begin. All my life you have been my father figure not just to me also to my siblings. We have so many memories together from picking me from school to teaching me how to drive. I miss all the jokes you would say, most of all blaming your farts on other people even though you repeated it every day, it never got old. We even made a handshake and it kills me that I wont be getting our daily handshakes. Going home from work or  just coming back from the store is not the same anymore, right when you hear that metal door open you would rush to the door look through that peep hole and open it with a big ass smile on your face. There’s honestly so many memories I have with you I can go on forever. Im trying to stay strong and moving forward cause im pretty sure thats what you want us to do but it hurts that you are gone so sudden, but you are no longer hurting and you’re happy to be reunited with mamang. Tell mamang i said Hi! I love you both ALWAYS and FOREVER.

Thank you for taking me in as one your own grandchildren. I am forever blessed that I was able to spend everyday with you for the last four and a half years. I’ve seen you at your weakest and your strongest. But I am relieved to know you aren’t suffering anymore. You will be deeply missed by all of us. I am extremely happy to know what it was like to have such a good grandfather in my life. You were not only good to your own family but to everyone you crossed paths with. Pops, I love you so much and we all miss you like crazy. I can’t believe you left us but it’s okay because you’re with Mamang, pain free  and happy. I know you two will be watching over all of us. You raised me and cared for me my entire life and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I miss you so much and we will see you again. Rest east my grandpa.

Remembering Rusty

A simple get-together 10 July 1982 - with my Mamang, neighbors Bey Llamado and my kumare Joi Llamado

First time I met Rusty was in the 70’s when I joined my best friend his wife-to-be Sollie on a short vacation to Batangas at Sollie’s brother Mang Nanding. This was the first time that I got to witness a serenade (harana) although Rusty was not the singer.  At first I noticed him to be very shy not saying much but once, I got to know him I found out he has a great sense of humor, humble and down-to-earth.  

With that harana and courtship Rusty and Sollie settled down in Cavite City right in front of our house. Their union bore them 2 lovely daughters – Rowena (Rowie) and Richelle (Ichie).  They became our extended family because of the close bond that developed. I became Rowie’s godmother while my brother Jim became Ichie’s godfather later on Rusty as my daughter Verlie’s godfather. 
 We always celebrate special occasions together – birthdays, anniversaries, fiestas, Christmas, New Year’s Eve and even on a simple day get-together. 
Papang and Rusty are so compatible because they are both funny men there was never a dull moment when we were together.  At times they go to a bar for fun and good time.
The pictures I shared are just but a few of the many memories we shared with Rusty and Sollie.  But these few pictures are a symbol of the close bond we developed with our extended family, until they migrated to the USA on  12 Jan. 1983 which sadly was my birthday.
Even after they migrated they never failed to get in touch to say Hello or greet us on our birthdays. 
Thank you Rusty for the happy and wonderful memories.  We will always treasure them.   You will always be missed Pareng Rusty.  May you rest eternally in God’s bosom with your and our beloved Sollie. 



Uncle Rusty, being the younger and only brother of my dad, I always look up to you as my second dad. No wonder growing up I have inherited some of your traits and mannerism. I personally think we have so many things in common like that of being a joker! Though we haven’t spent much time together because of life circumstances and living in two different continents, we never lost the connection of being a family - that’s what really counts!

Thank you for the good memories you shared during your lifetime. You will be greatly missed my dear uncle. We love you!

Rest well dear uncle in GOD’s heavenly kingdom.

You maybe gone but you are not forgotten. I will always remember your jokes and being a lively person. You have been one of our mentor when we were younger then.  Thank you for guiding us. Rest in peace Uncle Rusty.
