He was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, on August 15, 1932. Bill graduated from St Mary’s Boys High School in June 1950.
He was married to Phyllis Landry on August 14, 1960. He joined the United States Navy in October 1950 and served 20 years. He retired in 1970 as a Chief Boatswain's Mate. He then started an almost 19-year career as an Animal Control Officer for the County of San Diego and retired in 1989.
Bill was active with the Fleet Reserve Branch 289 for 30+ years and with the City of Imperial Beach. He held the post of Americanism and Patriotism with the FRA Branch 289 and was on the Imperial Beach Chamber of Commerce. He was active with Paint IB projects, the Pearl Harbor Memorial Service, Flag Retirement Ceremonies, Memorial Day Ceremony at Veterans Park, was on the Essay Committee where he visited middle and high schools throughout the South Bay area and numerous other activities with both the FRA Branch 289 and the City of Imperial Beach. He had been given numerous awards including the Imperial Beach Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award, he was the Grand Marshal in the Sand Castle Competition parade, he was awarded the National Award for Americanism and Patriotism by the Fleet Reserve Association and the latest award he was given, the Mayoral Community Award by the Mayor of Imperial Beach, Serge Dedina.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Landry and daughter, Susan Moore. He was survived by his daughters, Cathy LeClair, Patty Christy and Donna Hulsizer, along with grandchildren, Rachel Blackburn, Adam Zavaleta, Briana Moore, Katelyn Moore, Jennifer Jay, Stephanie Jay, Heather Townson, Michelle Vallarelli, Grace Vallarelli, Andrew LeClair, Christopher LeClair, and Madison Hulsizer. He is also survived by 16 Great Grandchildren, by his sister Rosemary Martin and brother David Landry.
Bill Landry’s Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, May 5, 2019, 2PM at FRA Branch 289, 659 Silver Strand Blvd, Imperial Beach CA, 91932. His interment at Ft Rosecrans National Cemetery will be Thursday, May 9, 2019, 11:30AM at 1700 Cabrillo Memorial Dr, San Diego, CA 92106.
