

Frank Franzago, the last surviving member of the New Rochelle, NY Franzago family, passed away on 26 October, 2015. Frank is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Virginia ("Ginny"), daughters Sandy Franzago of Gold River, CA, Tracy Snyder of Plano, Texas, grandson, Cody Schrotel, and son and daughter-in-law, Tony & Risa Franzago, of Austin, Texas.
Frank joined the Air Force when he was 19 and served as both navigator & pilot. He always considered himself a fighter pilot, having flown the F-102 supersonic fighter - traveling faster than the speed of sound - for many years. He was also a T-38 instructor pilot in the advanced phase of Pilot Training. He flew 147 combat missions in EC-47’s in Vietnam where he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. After retiring as a Colonel from the Air Force in 1975, he moved to Sacramento, California, where he was a small business owner for 2 decades
Frank was an avid skier, golfer, and devout Catholic, as a member of St. Mel Parish. He joined SIR ("Sons In Retirement") Branch 69 in 1998, and served as Secretary, Treasurer, and Membership Chairman. He was the editor of their monthly newsletter for 13 years and was made an Honorary Life Member in the SIR in 2007.
Services will include Rosary at Reichert Funeral home, Tuesday, Oct 27th, and Funeral Mass at St Mel Catholic Church, Fair Oaks, CA at 11am, Wednesday, Oct 28th, reception to follow. Please make donations to St.Vincent de Paul at St. Mel Parish, in lieu of flowers.
