Victor Earl Schwenk
Former NFL Coach of the Los Angeles Rams
and first hire for the New Orleans Saints
as Player of Personal 1967 and than promoted to General Manger in 1968-1972
Born in Dayton,Ohio,to George and Erma Schwenk passed away peacefully in his sleep March 14, 2016 at home in Citrus Heights, California at the age of 91.
Victor was a Navy Veteran in WWII,afterthe war he attended UCLA in 1946 and played football( tight end #55)and then went to Occidental College 1947 and played football until he graduated with a Degree in Physical Education. He began his coaching career at the high school level at Colton and San Merino High School 1955-1957 and won CIF for southern California Division.
Haled the coach of the decade, he then was offered a position to coach for
Occidental College (1960-1963). In 1964-1965 he worked for the Los Angeles Rams as Assistant Coach. My father was contacted in 1966 by the Edmonton Eskimos,Canada to see if he would consider becoming the General Manager of their team, of course he accepted!
In 1967 the beginning of a new team for the NFL,the New Orleans Saints were interested in offering my father the position of Player of Personal ,he accepted. In 1968 he was promoted to General Manager and held that position until 1972.
When he retired from football, he became a successful Business Broker here in Sacramento,California.
He is survived by his three daughters,
Kandice Suzanne Schwenk, Judith Oxley and V.A Bradford and grandchildren Mitch, Patrick,Gennie,Kim and Kali. Step daughters Zoe and Donae, step grandchildren Kurtis,Zoey and Lille.
Please forgive me Dad that this posting took so long, it took me a little while to get my emotions in order.
I lost my Dad,my mentor,my teacher,my hero,my protector,my secret keeper,my coach and my best friend.
My family's leader and the greatest man I've ever known in the world. I will miss you everyday.I will always try to make you proud.The only person in my life that taught me about unconditional love and to never give up.I want to thank you that you chose to live with me the last year and a half of your life. It was truly a gift and an honor to care for you.I will love you each and everyday until I see you again. I was the last one to hold you and kiss you good night. I will forever miss you, your baby Kandi.
