Leonard Wong was born in San Francisco’s Chinese Hospital on October 26, 1950. His father was Yook Yong Wong and his mother was Bick Jee Lee. Leonard has two older brothers, Wayne (Ida) and Calvin (Helen).
Growing up in an apartment building on Washington Street above the sewing factory operated by his aunt and uncle, Leonard spent many years working at the sewing factory while going to Francisco Middle School, Galileo High School and City College of San Francisco.
Leonard graduated from CCSF with a degree from their printing technology program. He got a job operating printing presses at the University of California’s Berkeley Laboratory. He later worked at different printing companies in the Bay Area and also had a second job at the Japantown parking garage.
Leonard joined Cornerstone Evangelical Baptist Church some 50 years ago at the Lawton and 25th Avenue location and subsequently followed the church to its main location on Silver Avenue. His greatest joy was to give his life to his Lord, Jesus Christ. Leonard would volunteer to help with almost every activity the Church needed him for.
Leonard loved to ski when he was younger and even bought a condominium with his cousins in Incline Village in Tahoe to indulge in that fun activity. Leonard also loved to travel. He has gone on a church pilgrimage to Israel and attended an evangelical convention in Dallas. Cruising no doubt was his favorite type of vacation. He traveled the world on cruise ships with his cousins and family. Shortly before the pandemic, he was on one of his favorite vacations, a cruise that started in Dubai, went around India while stopping at Mumbai and Cochin, then to Penang, Malaysia and finally to Singapore.
Leonard wanted to acknowledge the love and care he was given by his brothers and their families while undergoing his cancer treatments and to all his friends at church who kept him in their prayers
On October 1, 2022, Leonard passed away into the arms of his loving Lord, Jesus Christ.
