She was born on December 1, 1955 in Merkel, Texas to parents Lester and Mildred Kinsey Rister.
Darlene was a hard working woman who loved caring for others, which made her the perfect fit for being a nurse. She worked for several years as a nurse in the prison system and in other areas before settling into a lifelong role as an RN for Hendrick Hospice, a job she held for over 25 years. Many families she served over the years would tell stories of how caring and loving she was. She would often receive Christmas cards and random thank you cards telling her how people felt about her, she was truly an exceptional nurse and Hendrick Hospice was blessed to have had her. In her spare time Darlene enjoyed painting ceramics and shopping, especially at Kohl’s and Ikia, but the main thing she did was spend time with her family. Any time there was a family gathering she could not and would not miss it, she was a great wife, mother, and grandmother. At family functions she was always easy to spot, all you had to do is look for the person holding the baby, or ask her favorite grandchild Morgan as they had an especially close bond. Darlene leaves behind a legacy of Love, the love of family and of her community and she could be considered an inspiration to all who knew her.
Darlene is survived by her loving husband E.J. Lemaster, by a son Brian Cook of Burlington, Vermont, by a daughter Debbie Gilbert and husband Kevin of Colorado City, by grandchildren Keveen Alcantar and husband Chris of Colorado City, Rikki Roberts and husband Casey of Colorado City, Jalin Gilbert and wife Mara of Big Spring, and Kieth Lemaster of Mesa, Arizona, and by great-grandchildren Wyatt Roberts, Morgan Roberts, Brady Alcantar, Michael Alcantar, Colt Gilbert, Cash Gilbert, and Cooper Gilbert. She is also survived by her brother Randy Rister and wife Debbie of Eula, by her sister Sandra Owen of Stephenville, and by a sister-in-law Margie Morgan, as well as by several nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her father Lester Rister, her mother Mildred Fryer, by her step-father Dale Fryer, son Brian Lemaster, a sister-in-law Peggy Lemaster, and by brother-in-laws Bob Owen, Rick Lemaster, and Roy Lemaster. She was also preceded in death by her fur baby Bandit.
