He was born on September 22, 1947 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to John and Thelma Simcox Starr.
Jack was a man who loved his family deeply. He took pride in traveling all around with his wife Donna to watch his grandchildren at their many different extracurricular activities. Jack spent the majority of his working life as a corrections officer, a job he loved and did with pride. He retired from the TDCJ Wallace Unit in 2010. He was a long time member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Colorado City and a member of the Colorado City Coffee Club at Stripes. In his spare time he enjoyed talking with friends, reading, writing, and listening to his classical music. When asking him a question you may want to have a chair ready because there were no yes or no answers, rather answers that went into lengthy details. His stories and the love he shared with family will be cherished for many years.
Jack is survived by his wife Donna Starr of Colorado City, by sons Don Hurt and wife Becky of Snyder, Ruben Hurt and wife Patsy of Colorado City, Bhav Patel and wife Bhagi of Cedar Park, by daughters Marci Marquis of Broken Bow Oklahoma, Jakki Nagy of Lindborg Kansas, and Talva Castillo of Colorado City, as well as by 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also surviving is a sister Carmen Eppler of Oklahoma City, 1 niece, 1 nephew and a host of dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
