He was born in Colorado City on February 2, 1959 to Jesse Barrera Sr. and Rosa Carasco Barrera.
Jesse was a kindhearted man who believed in his Catholic faith and putting God and family first. He was a good husband and father and an even better grandfather, showing patience throughout the years as he taught his children and grandchildren the value in the art of music. When not with family or out riding bikes with his friends he was what he referred to as a work-alcoholic, but most others would simply call a workaholic, always working hard yet taking his time at his job because he took pride in his work as a jack-of-all-trades construction worker. Those that knew him knew he had the mind of a hustler with the heart of a king, keeping a soft spot for both people and animals. He loved raising his dogs and his chickens, which he did since a young age (even if they were not technically his animals). In his spare time he would hop on his Harley and ride bikes with his friends, listen to his conjunto music and play music with his family in their band Elias Y Los Chuy’s. He instilled many great values in the hearts of his family members, and they will be forever grateful.
Jesse is survived by his wife Sara Barrera of Loraine, by a son Elias Jesus Barrera of Loraine, daughters Sonya Barrera-Ybarra and husband Lee of Loraine and Claudia Barrera and wife Kalee of Roscoe, and by grandchildren Esme Barrera, Veya Barrera, Xander Ybarra, and Arianny Ybarra. He is also survived by a brother Danny Barrera and wife Toni of Loraine, and by sisters Olga Martinez and husband John of Colorado City, Sylvia Lewis of Blossom, and Janie Dennison and husband Randall of Abilene.
He was preceded in death by brothers Joe Barrera and David Barrera.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Jesse will be held on Thursday, November 7th at 10 am at Saint Ann’s Catholic Church of Colorado City with Father Michael Udegbunam officiating.
