He was born on December 1, 1943 in Roscoe Texas to Jessie Melvin Watson Sr and Bertie Pearl Yoakum Watson.
Jess lived in Mitchell County for the majority of his life he was a graduate of Westbrook High in 1962. After high school Jess went to work for the Texas Pipeline Company for a while. In 1966 he joined the Navy until his discharge in 1967. After his discharge he went to work for the pipeline company again until he opened his own heating and air conditioning company which he ran in Colorado City until he was no longer able to work. In his early years he enjoyed hunting, but later in life found joy in raising animals instead. When he wasn’t enjoying his time working and seeing customers Jess could be seen spending time feeding his horse.
Jess is survived by his wife Deborah Watson of Abilene, by his children Dalton Cox and wife Liz of Dallas, Jaime Anderson and husband Milo of San Angelo, and Jay Cox of San Antonio, as well as by his brother Leslie Watson and wife Janie of Colorado City. Also surviving is a nephew Cole Watson and wife Suzanne of Wills Point and two nieces Leah Smail and husband Kevin of Shawnee Kansas and Lacy Moreno and husband Genaro of Magnolia.
A funeral service for Jess will be held on Wednesday, October 3rd at 10 am at the First Baptist Church of Colorado City with Doctor Jerry Shields officiating, interment will follow in the Colorado City Cemetery.
There will be no formal visitation.
