Buster was born February 23rd 1918 in Colorado City, Texas and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Colorado City High School and later married his high school sweetheart, Mary Elizabeth “Betsy” Lee Aycock on August 21st, 1938. They had 2 sets of twins. The first set of twins were born on December 21, 1939 and the second set of twins followed on October 14, 1947.
He owned and operated the Colorado Machine Shop. When it was sold, he was asked to continue to work for the new owner’s when it was moved to Woodward, Oklahoma. After he retired, he returned to Colorado City and went to work for Browne Brothers where he helped them build and repair oil and railroad equipment. He was considered a great asset to the company.
He was a Ruling Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Colorado City and served the church in many capacities. He represented the church at the Palo Duro Presbytery meetings and served the church in many other leadership roles including leading a variety of Bible studies.
He was recognized for his tireless work in his church and community. He was presented an award from Colorado Middle School in recognition for organizing military care packages, sending CD’s and CD players to soldiers and developing a scholarship program among other things.
An active member of the Lion’s Club, he helped with many fundraisers for the group.
He was involved with everything and everybody in the community. He went to all the high school football games and he liked to take treats to the nurses at the clinic and employees at the bank. If he saw someone in need, he would always offer to help. He always had a smile on his face and everyone knew and loved him.
He celebrated his 100th Birthday last year with 5 generations in attendance. He enjoyed interacting with his great-great grandkids as they always put a smile on his face. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his son Daniel Aycock of Tyler Texas and by a daughter Cynthia Jones of North Richland Hills, as well as by 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Buster will be held in the Chapel of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Colorado City at 2pm on Saturday, February 23rd with the burial to follow in the Colorado City Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit from 1pm until the time of the service at the church
