Robert was born in Colorado City Texas to Leonard and Gladys Howell Henderson on April 28, 1931.
Robert was a good Christian who lived for his Lord, always putting God first in his life, followed close by his family. He was a graduate of Colorado High having graduated in 1948. After school he worked for a while at Colorado Lumber until starting his life-long career as a Plant Operator for Sun Oil where he worked from 1954 until his retirement in 1994. On November 24, 1950 Robert married the love of his life Miss Janie Hamrick who he spent over 68 years loving and growing with every day. After taking his position at Sun Oil the two of them moved to Silver for six years until moving back to Colorado City where he would commute to Snyder every day for work. After retiring the two of them settled down at Colorado City Lake. In his spare time he enjoyed attending church, hunting, fishing, water skiing, and snow skiing, all of which were hobbies that he taught and shared with his family who were his pride and joy.
Robert is survived by his wife Janie Henderson of Colorado City, by his daughter Kathy Bassham of Euless, by his grandchildren Tia Matlock and husband Homer of Westbrook and their children Zoe and Parker Matlock, Whitney Norby and husband Michael of Needham Mass and their children Alex and Sean Norby, and by Zack Mowery and wife Natalie of Lubbock and their children Brody and Sadie Mowery. He is also survived by a sister Barbara Thompson of Denver Colorado as well as by several nieces, nephews, and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Brenda Mowery, by a brother Don Henderson, and by a sister Margaret Whitaker.
A funeral service for Robert will be held on Friday, January 18th at 2pm at the First Baptist Church of Colorado City with Doctor Jerry Shields officiating. The family will be present for a visitation from 10:30 pm to 12:30 pm at the Church. Interment will follow the service in the Colorado City Cemetery.
