Passed away after a brief illness in Hendrick Medical Center of Abilene, TX on January 7, 2021.
He was born on September 19, 1951 in Loraine TX to the late Rosalio and Antonia Garcia Lopez. He was a 1971 graduate of Colorado High School in Colorado City, TX.
He was enlisted as a Sergeant Co E in the National Guard of Texas and as a Reserve of the Army from 1971-1977.
R.T. was a hardworking man, having worked in the oilfield most of his life for Sharidge Inc. with a brief employment with Hanks Oil. R.T. worked until he retired in 2018. He was a recovering alcoholic, and chose to quit drinking over 27 years ago. This decision allowed him to spend more quality time with his family which made his son look up to him like he was superman. He was an old-fashioned man, and preferred to pay his bills in person. It was not uncommon to see him gone for hours as he enjoyed having long talks while out paying bills and running errands.
In his spare time R.T. enjoyed being a homebody watching Netflix and Western shows. He followed boxing closely (especially his grandson). He was a Raiders fan during football season, but he was secretly an avid Cowboys fan. R.T. also enjoyed cooking barbeque for his family. He was a man who enjoyed the simpler things in life. The memories with him will be cherished by those that loved him.
R.T. is survived by his wife, Mary Grace Lopez of Colorado City. He is also survived by his sons Christopher Lopez of Colorado City, Tony Lopez and wife Monica of Abilene, and Joel Lopez of Abilene. He is also survived by his step-children Corrina and husband Jesse Robinson of Rotan, Lisa Vaughn of Abilene, Leon Molina of Abilene, and Krystal Molina-Hernandez and husband Armando Hernandez of Aurora, CO. He is also survived by a sister Mary Ann Lopez of Hendersonville, NC. He has 22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister Victoria Vanderpool.
A graveside service for R.T. will be held in the Mitchell County Cemetery on Wednesday, January 13th at 2pm with Pastor Felix Silva officiating.
Pallbearers: Christian Lopez, Austin Palacios, Caesar Torres, Leon Molina, Jesse Robinson, and Justice Robinson.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Kiker Seale Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers and donations, contributions can be made in his memory to Mitchell County Veterinary Clinic to help with the care for animals for those who cannot afford it.
