Ada Louise Ramsey, age 85, of Columbia, South Carolina had been ill and lost her courageous battle peacefully on March 24, 2021. Her daughter Alissa Marie was holding her hand, offering support and love as she passed.
Louise was born June 5, 1935 in Jacksonville, Florida. She was the daughter of the late James Flowers Partin and Corinne Bessie Lowe Partin.
She graduated from John McDonogh High School, New Orleans, Louisiana in 1953. She was married to the late retired Chief Warrant Officer III John Robert “Red” Ramsey for 23 years. She worked many civil service positions for the United States Army while married to Mr. Ramsey. Her most memorable position was secretary to the Comptroller of the United States Army Signal Agency in Cayey, Puerto Rico. While in Puerto Rico she received many Accommodation and Performance awards. In addition, Louise worked for the G4 at XVIII Airborne Corps after Mr. Ramsey was transferred to the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Together they were stationed in Kitzingen, Germany where their first daughter, Lysandra Dee, was born. After being transferred to Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, Georgia, their second daughter, Alissa Marie, was born.
The family moved to Columbia, South Carolina in 1971. Louise retired from Macy’s Department Store (formerly Rich’s Department Store) in 2000. She always boasted it was a rewarding experience where she made numerous wonderful friends. Many of whom she remained close. Louise adored the ocean and beach. Basking in the sun and listening to the waves break onshore were her fondest memories of vacations and visits to Florida. She also cherished her family and spending time with them during the holidays was most treasured. She was an avid reader and loved playing Bridge. She enjoyed baking and surprising her family and friends with Strawberry Trifle and “from scratch” Banana Pudding!
Louise is survived by her loving daughter Alissa Marie Ramsey-Ritchie (Thomas J. Lesieur) of Elgin, South Carolina. Six grandchildren: Brittany Hollis of Chapin, South Carolina; Kelsey Hollis of Greenwood, South Carolina; Nicholas Viscusi of Orlando, Florida; Mia Louise Ramsey of Fayetteville, North Carolina; Dawson Ritchie of Lansing, Michigan; and Ian of Tampa, Florida. Six great grandchildren: JR, Bayleigh, Hayden, Brantley, Destry, and Salem. She is also survived by one sister Linda Partin of Tampa, Florida. Other survivors include nieces: Lynn Wilson (Michael) of Jacksonville, Florida; Carla Woolever (William) of Austin, Texas; and Nicole Hackney (Jase) of Tampa, Florida.
Tim (Kelly) of Tampa, Florida will remain as Louise’s “forever son-in-law”. He was gracious and always ready to help with anything she needed.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her older daughter, Lysandra Dee and oldest granddaughter, Rachel Viscusi Branham.
A very special thank you to Mary Goodwin and her companion, Al Cohen, along with Judy Pearce for all the kindness and support they have given Louise. They are true friends.
