

A Mass of Christian Burial for Alfred George Vaine, 87, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, with burial in Fort Jackson National Cemetery at 12 noon. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
Mr. Vaine passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2021. Born on August 5, 1934 in Westminster, Vermont, he was the son of Frances Ralph Vaine and Gretchen Eliza Vaine. Alfred went into the U.S. Army in 1952 and retired as Sergeant First Class in 1974 with 22 years of service. He met his wife, Marie Gaa, in Vietnam while serving during the Vietnam War in 1967. They later married on June 2, 1972.
Alfred enjoyed nature and the outdoors, fishing, wood working, building projects, cars, and playing poker with his kids.
Surviving are his wife, Marie Gaa Vaine; his six children, Anne Parrish Vaine (Nathan), Alfred Vaine Jr., Thomas Vaine (Jamie), Jerry Vaine (Regan), George Vaine (Vanessa), and Diane Vaine-Klebes (Joshua); and his grandchildren, Maddie Vaine, Daven Vaine, Claudia Vaine, Brody Vaine, Ivy Klebes, MJ Vaine, Darien Vaine, Daniel Cera, and Gabriel Cera.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Madeline Stowell and Francine Vaine.
