With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Father, Pop Pop, and Husband, Allan Michael Lindsey of Columbia, South Carolina. He passed peacefully on October 30th, 2025 at the age of 80, with his loving and devoted wife, Nereida, at his side.
Born in Greenville, South Carolina on May 29, 1945, to Earle and Guy Lindsey, Allan graduated from Pickens High School in 1963 and earned a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Clemson University in 1967. Afterwards he began his graduate studies at Georgia Tech, pausing to serve four years in the United States Air Force, where he rose to the rank of Captain and met the love of his life, Nereida. He completed his master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1974. After graduate school, Allan worked as an engineer for over thirty years at Harsco Track Technologies, focused on equipment and technology for trains, particularly high-speed rail systems overseas.
A devoted family man, his greatest joy came from spending time with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nereida; his children, Christina Szczepanski (Adam) of Atlanta, Georgia, and Robert Lindsey (Dana) of Columbia, South Carolina; and his grandchildren, Adelina, Casimir and Julian Szczepanski. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earle and Guy Lindsey and his brothers Malcolm “Mac” and Stephen Earle Lindsey, his aunt Faye Lindsey and his sister-in-law, Harriet Lindsey. He is also survived by many first cousins and their families, lifelong friends, neighbors, and cherished loved ones across South Carolina, North Carolina and beyond.
Allan built a life dedicated to service - to God, his family, and his country.
A steadfast supporter of Boy Scouting, himself an Eagle Scout, he dedicated many years to Troop 397 at Asbury United Methodist Church in Columbia. His children and grandchildren all followed his footsteps into Scouting.
At Asbury, where he was a faithful member for 51 years, he volunteered many hours to the Random Acts of Kindness “RAK” Pack, spent years leading Sunday School classes and as Treasurer, and enjoyed time spent in various other service roles within the Church.
Working in his hobby shop in the backyard was a timeless joy for him, whether it was building furniture, restoring cars (especially Toyota FJ Cruisers), or playing with model trains and carving Pinewood Derby cars with his grandchildren.
Allan truly loved his country and he enjoyed leading trips in the family camper across the nation and back when the children were school age. From the foothills of the Upstate and the mountains surrounding Asheville, all the way to Washington State to visit friends from his Air Force days, he enjoyed the sights and natural beauty in between that this country has to offer. In recent years he enjoyed expanding his range all the way to Spain and Alaska – his favorite city in Spain being Barcelona.
Closer to home, he was a devoted Clemson Tigers fan, spending many Saturdays cheering them on in Death Valley. Go Tigers!
Allan’s generous spirit – he was a friend and mentor to all he met – left a lasting impression on many people. He was, simply put, one of the kindest and most positive people you could ever know. We honor his life by continuing to share the love and kindness he gave so freely. His spirit lives on in each act of generosity, each open-hearted moment, and in the light that he brought to the world.
A burial ceremony will be held on November 10th at 2:00 pm at Fort Jackson National Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 3:30 pm at Asbury United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts or donations be made to: Asbury United Methodist Church (1005 Asbury Drive, Columbia, SC 29209), Sandy Springs Baptist Church (Pelzer, SC 29669), and food banks and pantries in your community.
