She is survived by her daughters: Caroline Overcash, Sharon Craig, and Janet Jackson, and by her grandchildren: Noah Overcash and Abbigail Jackson; and countless friends and extended family. We all share a heavy loss of support, love and an example to live by.
Barbara
She conquered the world and did it with love, compassion and empathy. She had a full life, lived at any phase triumphant. A mother, she was awesome. A social worker who sought value in and recognized society's often overlooked, as actual human beings, so mother multiplied. An advocate, a helper, or a force to be reckoned with if you were not of the same mindset. An artist, who brought beauty to our world and recognized the beauty others' contributed, from the masters to someone she saw promise in on the street. A genuine, beautiful soul.
She knew the world was bigger than her house, her block, her neighborhood, state or country. She traveled and explored, cane in hand, never tired of learning, of conquering, of connecting. She decorated her home with trinkets of what she learned and loved along the way; 41 countries, and most of the states. At 85 she still had a trip planned. Resilient, undeterred.
Barbara's spirit animal is the wise owl. Her life dedicated to learning, helping and sharing wisdom.
Her back porch visits were always available and priceless.
A mom can't live forever, but she can through the lives she touched and the wisdom she imparted.
We lost an angel on earth, but we have all gained an angel in Heaven. Rest assured World, she will have an opinion about this and she will be observing.
