Mrs. Betty A Britt

COLUMBIA - Betty Allen (Betty Jo) Britt, 84, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 19, 2016. Born March 17, 1932 in Goodrich, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Charles M. and Gertrude B. Allen. As a lifelong resident of the Shandon community, she attended Schneider Elementary, Hand Junior High, Dreher High School and the University of South Carolina. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, which was next door to her family home on Wheat Street. Mrs. Britt was employed by the SC. Tax Commission and retired after 30 years of state service. She is survived by a son, Dudley H. Britt III of Irmo; and a grandson, Joseph Allen Britt Jr. of Columbia; as well as the many friends and neighbors whose lives she touched in a positive way. She was predeceased by her husband, Dudley H. Britt Jr.; a daughter, Julia C. Britt; and a son, Joseph Allen Britt Sr. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oliver Gospel Mission, Richland County ASPCA or a charity of one’s choice.
