

COLUMBIA A graveside service for Charlene Hiott Russell, 87, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 28, 2023, in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
Charlene passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023. She was born on January 9, 1936, in St. Petersburg, Fla. Charlene was the daughter of the late Charles and Catherine Hess.
Charlene was attending Columbia Hospital School of Nursing when she met David Dugan Hiott, affectionately known as Jack. The two quickly fell in love and eloped. While raising their children, she worked as a dental assistant. Charlene had a special place in her heart for Pawleys Island, the South Carolina Gamecocks, gardening and spending time with friends and family.
Surviving are her children, Bobby Hiott (Mitzi), Cathy Reid, and Laura Mooneyhan; stepchildren, Karen Campbell (Bobby), Chuck Russell (Kaye), and Wally Russell; grandchildren, Ashley (Garrett), Brandi, Allie (Bryce), Michael, Emily, Michelle, Charlene, Bill; numerous stepgrandchildren, great- grandchildren, and other loved family and friends. The family would especially like to thank her devoted friend and caregiver, Shirley Outlaw and the staff at Brightstar Columbia.
Charlene was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, David D “Jack” Hiott Sr.; her second husband, Charles R “Bobby” Russell; her son, David Hiott Jr.; son-in-law, Bill Mooneyhan Sr.; sisters; and her half-brother.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Epworth Children’s Home. May she rest in peace, and may God provide us the opportunity to forever honor her memory.
