On October 5th 2023, Daniel Frazier Revels was called home by his Lord and Savior. He was welcomed by his wife of 49 years, Emily Lucas Revels, who preceded him in death by 3 years. He is also reunited with his father Richard Charles Revels and his mother Rachel Kennedy Revels of Charlotte, NC. He will be happily greeted by Joe, Keeter, David, Bobby, and Ashley whom we have missed.
Engaging in conversation never intimidated Dan. He was opinionated and brash; those close to him appreciated that about him because you always knew where he stood. Yet, at the same time he was caring, compassionate, and emotional. Those who knew him best knew that he was a big softy. He could barely make it through a dinner blessing without shedding a tear.
Dan traveled the world in his career as a salesman in the textile industry, but there was no place anywhere that he would prefer to be on a fall Saturday afternoon than Raleigh, NC to see his Wolfpack play surrounded by his friends and family. He was a 1972 graduate of NC State University with a BS in Engineering Operations and earned a Masters of Business Administration from Pfeiffer College in 1987.
Danny is survived by his oldest son Daniel Kevin Revels of Mocksville, NC, his best friend Michael Joseph Revels of Columbia, SC, and his brother Richard Wayne Revels and his sister-in-law Pris Revels of Huntersville, NC and their sons Jeff, Justin, and Brandon. He will be dearly missed by his sister-in-law Susan Lucas Furmage and her husband Robert Furmage of Kernersville, NC and their girls Hannah, Audrey, and Becca.
Pops was passionate about his six grandchildren. When presented with an opportunity to see Catherine, Cooper, Finley, Waverly, Creed, or Walker play in a game or act in a school play or participate in a church youth group activity, he was there. He treasured his relationships with his daughters-in-law Robin Revels of Columbia, SC and Jennifer Revels of Bakersville, NC.
Dan’s many friends and neighbors (some dating all the way back to high school and college) were a cherished part of his life. Judy Duncan of Columbia, SC was his dance partner and travel companion, keeping him on his toes over the past couple of years and his sons can never thank her enough for all she has done.
The family will receive visitors to share Dan’s memory Friday October 6, 2023 at the Dunbar Funeral Home on Devine St in Columbia, SC from 5-7 pm. A graveside memorial service will be held at Old Bluff Presbyterian Church in Godwin, NC on Saturday October 7, 2023 at 2 pm.
Dan and his family ask that in-lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to the V Foundation for Cancer Research so that one day we may achieve victory over cancer.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.dunbarfuneralhomedevine.com for the Revels family.
