

COLUMBIA - A memorial service for Edward “Ed” M. Simpson, 70, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2026 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. There will be food and fellowship following the service at the Jamil Shrine Center, 206 Jamil Road, Columbia, SC 29210.
Ed passed away on Monday, May 18, 2026. Born in Columbia, SC, he was the son of the late LeRoy Simpson and Betty Duffy Simpson. He was a graduate of Dreher High School, Class of 1973. Ed began his career at Computer Records in Columbia before working for 25 years with Palmetto Bank in Greenville, SC. He later worked for Jamil Shrine Center as the building manager until December 2023.
A member of Jamil Shrine Temple and a Mason with Pacific Lodge, Ed was passionate about supporting the Shriners Children’s Hospital. In his spare time, he enjoyed boating on Lake Murray.
Surviving are his wife, Denise “DeeDee” Simpson; daughters, Jennifer Simpson Howell (Will) and Lori Simpson; sister, Loretta Simpson Young; brother, Roy “Duffy” Simpson (Angie); sister-in-law, Dell Simpson; and grandchildren, Trey Simpson Goldsmith, Jordan Goldsmith, Emma Howell, and Liam Howell; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, William LeRoy Simpson, and brother-in-law, Pete Young.
