Eugene Goodsell Appleman

COLUMBIA - A funeral service for Eugene Goodsell Appleman, 92, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be held at East Springfield United Methodist Church Cemetery in LaGrange, Indiana.

Mr. Appleman died March 27, 2026. Born in Auburn, Indiana, he was a son of the late Cecil and Jessie Appleman. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in History from Indiana University. He was a retired Major from the US Army, serving in Korea, Vietnam, and Germany. After retiring, he worked at Fort Jackson Budget Department. Eugene enjoyed collecting stamps, vacationing with his family, and listening to Classic Country music. He was musically talented, playing the keyboard, harmonica, violin, accordion, and guitar. He was also a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his daughter, Brenda M. McCarthy (Michael); grandchildren, Joshua G. Appleman (Ashlee), Kaelyn J. McCarthy, and Michael McCarthy, Jr.; great-grandson, Elias G. Appleman; sister-in-law, Sarah Appleman; and nieces, Cindy Lynn Appleman, and Anna Appleman.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Joyce Ann Appleman, and brother, Cecil W. Appleman.

The family wishes to thank the MUSC Downtown hospice and staff on the fourth and fifth floors for their compassionate care.
