Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late Fred Dupree Townsend, Sr. and Dollie Walker Townsend. He served in the U.S. Army/Air Corps during WWII and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Townsend worked as an Electrical Engineer at Palmetto Health Baptist Hospital. He loved to build remote control airplanes and enjoyed fishing at Edisto and in his pond.
He is survived by four sons. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Dixie Person Townsend and a daughter, Dorothy Ann Townsend.
An immediate burial will be held in Elmwood Cemetery. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
