

Harold Easley Bomar, Jr., age 82, died peacefully on August 2, 2023. He was born on December 10, 1940, to the late Harold Easley Bomar, Sr. and Mary Helen Heins-Bomar. Harold grew up in Manning, South Carolina and graduated from Manning High School in 1959. He also attended Clemson University. On February 14, 1961, Harold married his high school sweetheart, Sherry Dee Filson.
Having contracted polio at the age of eleven, Harold lived with a life of physical challenges. He began his career as a repairman of outboard motors, lawn mowers, air-conditioners and heaters for tobacco barns. In 1964, he began a new career as an estimator and draftsman for Stevens-Price Company in Columbia, South Carolina while his family remained in Manning, South Carolina. After 6 months he moved his family to Columbia. In 1970 Harold started and developed his own very successful Steel Fabrication Company (DECO Industries, Inc.) for 41 years.
Harold was a gifted storyteller with a dazzling smile and dry wit. He was well known for his acute observations of others. He loved his family and friends, country music, good food, and family celebrations. He also loved offshore fishing and trips to the Bahamas with friends and family. When Harold was unable to continue fishing due to his health, he began building model airplanes. He was a perfectionist in all things and enjoyed the company of other model airplane flyers at Mr. Bunky's airfield.
Harold was a member of Mill Creek Methodist Church and the Church Men’s Club. He was also a member of the Sertoma Club for several years.
Harold was known as a highly respected businessman, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He received pleasure by sharing his blessings with others.
Harold is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Sherry Filson Bomar; Sister, Mary Helen Bomar-Sinclair; Son, Harold Malcom Bomar (Della); Daughter, Denise Bomar-Black (Johnny); Grandchildren, Eva Christine Black, William Michael Black (Shannon), Robert Gordon Black (Ellison), and Aaron Allison; Great-Grandchildren, Waylon and Brooks Black, Judd and Iris Black, and Sawyer Dorman. Harold is predeceased by his son, Michael Derin Bomar and his grandson, Tanner Malcolm Bomar.
Visitation will be on Thursday, August 10th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, 3926 Devine Street, Columbia South Carolina.
Services will be held on Friday, August 11th at 1:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Baptist Church, 6612 Garners Ferry Road, Columbia, South Carolina with a brief graveside service at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, South Carolina.
Donations to St Jude Childrens' Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929, are preferred in lieu of flowers.
