

James Amedus "Jim" Donelan was born in Columbia on March 9, 1941. He was the son of the late William Patrick and Eleta Martin Donelan. He attended USC, where he met the love of his life, Beth, to whom he was married for 59 years. He graduated from Dreher High School and Richland (now Midlands) TEC. Jim was a pioneer in the field of IT. He spent his entire career working with various companies setting up computers. Jim was a HAM operator and the treasurer of the Columbia Amateur Radio Club for many years. He was an avid fan of the Lady Gamecocks and never missed a game.
He was a member of The Church of the Holy Cross, where he sang in the choir.
Jim is the author of "The Heart of Pine Cross", which documents his making of more than 80 crosses for members of the congregation, his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Beth, two loving daughters, Teresa Donelan and Harriett Singleton, his son-in-law, Mark and his wonderful granddaughters, Elizabeth and Abigail. Also, his sister, Mary Kvasnicka and brother-in-law, Robert, and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Harriett Avery, to whom he donated a kidney, and his brother, Bill Donelan.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. Friday, November 8, 2024, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. A visitation will be held from 2:00 until 3:00 pm on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at The Church of the Holy Cross, 335 North Kings Highway, Stateburg, SC, with a funeral service to follow at 3:00 pm. Burial will be held in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Cemetery Fund at the Church of the Holy Cross or a charity of one’s choice.
