Jim Wrenn passed away at his home on Friday, October 18, 2024. "Boslick," as he was delightfully called by his family, was 88 years old. He is survived by his three children, Todd, Jami, and Kevin Wrenn; their mother, Pal Wrenn; his five grandchildren: Rain (Kevin), Court, Hayden, Summer, and Gage (Todd); his brother, Clyde Wrenn; along with multiple nieces and nephews.
Born to his mother and father, Gertrude W. Wrenn and William (Bill) T. Wrenn, Jim was raised on a farm in Chester where he milked cows before he went to school. He bragged about how he went to Vanderbilt, Wofford, Clemson, and Columbia College and was still a freshman at age 88. He shared stories of his football games in Death Valley and passed his love for Clemson down to the next two generations of Wrenn Clemson graduates. He signed a professional contract with the Denver Broncos and later played in the Canadian Football League. He had a passion for racing horses, but his favorite sporting events were those where he watched his grandkids play. He never missed a single game or the opportunity to try to convince them to play golf. Jim was an avid golfer and, on a few occasions, shot seven strokes under his age, had six hole-in-ones, and two senior club championships.
The family would like to additionally thank Jay Couto who took care of Jim and his home for many years, Renee Starnes, and the great people at Lizard’s Thicket of Blythewood who treated him like family and gave him extra scoops of vanilla ice cream.
Visitation from Wednesday, October 23rd from 5 - 7 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home on Devine Street. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, October 24th, also at Dunbar Funeral Home.
