Born in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late John Joseph Metrick and Alice Flatley Metrick.
Joanne went to Notre Dame high School in Moylan, Pa. and received a Bachelor degree from Trinity College in Washington, DC. For several years she was a teacher and later worked for the state of South Carolina as a consultant in the Department of Aging for over thirty years. Once she retired she filled her days volunteering in a variety of activities at St. Peter's Church in Columbia. She headed up the bereavement committee, sat on the Parish Council and assisted her dear friend, Father Linsky with daily masses.
Joanne loved to travel and took many cruises and road trips most often with her sister Jackie. She was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles. Her greatest love besides God and church were her dogs, last of which is Sweet Pea, a 5 pound Maltese.
Surviving are her sisters Alice Metrick and Jaqueline Davenport, and her brother John Metrick. She is pre-deceased by her baby sister whom she loved dearly, Kathy Metrick. Joanne has an abundance of friends and cousins on both her mom and dads’ side of the family that were raised with her as family who have brought Joanne and her sisters much love and support through many years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 24th at The Basilica of Saint Peter, Columbia, SC, with a reception to follow at Neglia Hall from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Entombment will take place at Celestial Memorial Gardens in West Columbia at 1:00 p.m. The Rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, Sunday, November 23rd, with visitation to follow until 6:30 p.m.
